Teresa has a degree in Biology from the University of Lisbon, Portugal, a PhD in Physiology and Genetics of Microorganisms from the University of Paris XI, France, and has post-graduate training in genomics and bioinformatics at the University of Sorbonne, France, and the University of Minho, Portugal. She is a researcher at the National Institute for Agrarian and Veterinary Research (INIAV) and at the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes (cE3c) / CHANGE – Global Change and Sustainability Institute, at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. Her scientific goal is to understand the evolutionary dynamics of antibiotic resistance and bacterial virulence in environmental and animal and human gut microbial communities, according to the One Health concept. She has also been teaching in higher education and is involved in science outreach and communication activities, to promote scientific literacy in biological evolution. In this context, she has written two books, conceived two board games and a software to be used in non-formal activities on evolution, and is a board member of the scientific association’s EvoKE and APBE (Portuguese Association for Evolutionary Biology).
